Understanding your postpartum body
After pregnancy and childbirth, the body goes through rapid structural and hormonal changes. Muscles that once felt strong may now fatigue quickly. Core stability may feel reduced. Certain movements may create pressure or discomfort. These changes are completely normal, but they benefit greatly from professional guidance.
Common postpartum concerns include:
- Lower back pain or pelvic discomfort
- Weakness in the deep core or pelvic floor
- Abdominal separation
- Hip or sacroiliac joint stiffness
- Rib and breathing restrictions
- Difficulty returning to exercise
- A feeling that the body is “not working the same way”
These problems develop when:
- A specific muscle group is doing more work than it should
- A joint is stiff or restricted which forces another area to overload
- Training volume increases too quickly
- Technique changes under fatigue
- Old injuries disrupt normal biomechanics
- Recovery is insufficient between sessions
A Mummy MOT helps you understand exactly what has changed and what your body needs in order to recover safely and effectively.
We assess:
- Pelvic alignment, stability and joint movement
- Core activation and abdominal separation
- Pelvic floor function and coordination
- Breathing mechanics and rib mobility
- Muscle strength, balance and control
- Posture and movement patterns during daily activities
- Your readiness to return to training or higher load exercise
The focus is clarity. You leave with a clear explanation of what is happening, what needs support and how to progress confidently.Book Now
How osteopathy helps with rehabilitation support your postpartum recovery
The goal of treatment is not only to relieve symptoms but to restore the deep structural support your body relies on. Postpartum rehabilitation focuses on regaining strength, improving coordination and restoring balance between the core, pelvic floor and surrounding muscle groups.
During your sessions, we may use:
- Gentle osteopathic techniques to improve movement in the spine, pelvis and ribs, reducing discomfort and helping the body move more efficiently
- Targeted pelvic floor and deep core exercises based on your specific level of function, coordination and strength
- Tailored rehabilitation exercises to support the muscles, joints and connective tissues involved in lifting, carrying, bending and returning to exercise
- Breathing retraining to restore healthy pressure management between the diaphragm, core and pelvic floor
- Restorative strength work focusing on hips, glutes, abdomen and postural muscles that often weaken during pregnancy
- Posture and movement coaching to help you protect your body throughout feeding, carrying and childcare
- A progressive training plan that safely guides you from early recovery back to running, lifting or your preferred sport
The aim is a strong, confident postpartum body that moves well, feels supported and allows you to return to an active lifestyle without fear or hesitation.

FAQ
Your Questions Answered
Everything you need to know about osteopathy and L’OSTEO.
What is Osteopathy ?
Osteopathy is a way of detecting, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and massaging a person’s muscles and joints. Osteopathy is based on the principle that the wellbeing of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together. (NHS)
What conditions can osteopathy treat?
Osteopathy can help with back and neck pain, joint and muscle injuries, sciatica, headaches, sports injuries, postural issues and general musculoskeletal pain. It focuses on restoring healthy movement so your body can function at its best.
Can people of all ages use osteopathy?
Yes. Osteopathy is suitable for all ages including children, teenagers, adults, athletes and older individuals. Treatment is always adapted to each patient’s needs and health profile.
How long does an osteopathy treatment session last?
Initial consultations usually last 45 to 60 minutes and include assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Follow up sessions are 30 to 60 minutes depending on your condition and treatment plan.
Is osteopathy covered by health insurance or the NHS in the UK?
Many private health insurers cover osteopathy depending on your policy. Osteopathy is not routinely available on the NHS so most patients see us privately. We can provide invoices for insurance reimbursement.
Are there any risks or side effects associated with osteopathy?
Osteopathy is generally safe. Some patients may experience mild soreness, fatigue or temporary discomfort for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Serious side effects are extremely rare. If you experience any severe side effects, please contact your doctor or seek appropriate medical help.
Can osteopathy be used alongside other medical treatments?
Yes. Osteopathy is fully integrated within the medical system and we work in close partnership with GPs and specialist doctors. We focus on our scope of practice and collaborate with other healthcare professionals whenever needed to ensure you receive the best possible outcome.
How many osteopathy sessions will I need to see results?
This depends on the patient and the diagnosis. Most people notice an improvement between three to five sessions, although some very mild conditions may resolve after just one visit.
